How good is NIT Calicut in terms of rankings and other factors?

Well, NIT Calicut's ranking did see some ups and downs. Back in 2020, it was ranked 23rd for Engineering by NIRF, which is a good jump from its 2017 and 2018 rankings (44th and 50th, respectively).

However, there were some issues with the administration that led to a decline:

Infrastructure: The infrastructure wasn't great, especially the hostels. Plus, there weren't separate hostels for PG students.
Faculty: They had very few permanent faculty members, relying mostly on visiting faculty. They weren't replacing the permanent staff who were retiring.
Placements: Placement records weren't that impressive, especially for core branches. CSE, EEE, and ECE departments were the exceptions.

Hopefully, things have improved since 2020, and the rankings reflect that. It's worth noting that the cut-offs for JEE and GATE have been increasing.
